The Annual Calendar of Events
Every Day
A memorial service for the ancestors of each visiting family.
A memorial service for those enrolled in the perpetual sutra-offering. (Held in accordance with the Higan-e service in March and September, and the Hokke Senbu Daihōyō in May.)
Morning Service (Asa no Otsutome)
A service is held in the main hall every morning. Everyone is warmly welcome to take part. Chair seating is provided in the main hall. Time: from 6:00 a.m. each morning.

January
A chanting practice in which "Namu Myōhō Renge Kyō" is recited ten thousand times.
An event to arrange flowers and celebrate the New Year.
The first Honzankō of the New Year, which also features a lecture by an invited guest speaker.
A chanting practice held during the coldest part of winter.
February
Prayers are offered for the safety of the household and for traffic safety throughout the year.
One of Honnoji's three great services—a memorial marking the death anniversary of the temple's founder, Nichiryū Shōnin.
March
Memorial services during the equinoctial week for the ancestors of each family and for all departed spirits.
April
A service of gratitude for the birth of Śākyamuni Buddha.
An exhibition of works by Ikebana Honnoji and the Honnoji cultural classes.
A service commemorating the day Nichiren Daishōnin made his vow to propagate the Odaimoku and chanted it for the first time.
May
One of Honnoji's three great services, with a tradition of more than 450 years. The Lotus Sutra is recited one thousand times in prayer for the peace of the nation and the world, and as a memorial for all departed spirits.
June
A memorial service marking the death anniversary of Lord Nobunaga.
July
August
A memorial service for the ancestors of each family and for all departed spirits.

September
A service expressing gratitude to all the living creatures we consume in daily life. (Held with the Sankō Tenshi and Banjin-e rites, at the Kamo River.)
